in the garden

Your garden relaxation space

Create a cosy area to relax and unwind, whether to escape into a good book, get creative with art, do some journaling, or simply enjoy a quiet cuppa or glass of wine.

Here are our top things to consider:

Furniture

Think about who will use this space. For individuals or couples, a day bed, swing lounger or hanging egg chair are cosy, stylish options. For larger families, invest in an outdoor sofa, a few armchairs or modular furniture that can be adapted as needed.

The weather

Choose waterproof furniture or get covers to protect it when not in use. Outdoor pods are another option and come in a huge range of sizes, shapes and material, or you can build your own with wooden poles and sail shades.

Lighting

Start with ground level lighting for safety - which is often bright enough on its own - and then add to it as desired with lamps, lanterns, wall lights or fairy lights for ambience.

Warmth

To enjoy your garden after the sun sets, a chiminea or firepit are attractive additions. Or opt for a table heater that can be brought inside when not needed. Drape the furniture with soft, cosy blankets and cushions.

Privacy and shade

A simple, attractive solution to make your area private is to use pot plants such as tall bamboo for screening, or potted trees that extend over fence height. Slatted or decorative screens are an instant fix, and climbing plants can be added to them. Alternatively, there are a plethora of pergolas, large parasols, sun shades and gazebos on the market.

Senses

Choose scented plants to grow, such as lavender, roses, lemon balm and geraniums, or aromatic herbs such as thyme and rosemary to help you relax. Water features will add to a soothing atmosphere.

Decorations

An outdoor rug will help define the area and make it feel even more cosy, and adding smaller ornaments will give your space a personal touch.
