The conscious shopper
Sustainable summer shopping

As a conscious shopper, you know the little things matter. Waste can easily accumulate from everyday shopping and household activities, but building small, planet-friendly habits can make waste-reduction a joy.
Health and Beauty
Natural and radiant
Your skincare routine may change throughout the seasons, and the summer months are all about keeping your skin hydrated and protected from those sunny rays.
As we make our way through products packaged in plastic, our waste can really accumulate. Here are some planet-friendly solutions to keep you glowing!
Sun cream
Did you know that some chemicals found in mainstream sun creams can be toxic to marine life? If you’re swimming in the sea, or go to wash off in the shower after a day spent in the sun, these chemicals can enter the waterways and have a damaging effect. To combat this, opt for reef-safe, mineral sunscreens that are safer for the planet. Better yet if they’re not packaged in plastic.
Soap bars
One really simple way to handle your plastic usage is to opt for bars over bottles. It’s amazing how many liquids we pack into plastic bottles that can be bought as a single bar: hand wash, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, even washing up liquid can all be bought in bar form. Buying bars cuts out the plastic, they’re usually made up of more natural ingredients (always check the label), and often last longer too.
Deodorant
The temperature picks up, and, likely, so does our use of deodorant. Why not skip the plastic and potentially harmful chemicals, and opt for a biodegradable, natural deodorant this summer? You might be surprised at how effective they are.

Cleaning products
Clean & green
Mainstream cleaning products can include hazardous chemicals that are terrible for the environment, and packaging often ends up in landfill. Luckily, there are some cheap, planet-friendly alternatives available for purchase at your local farm store or refill shop.
All natural
Make use of nature’s cleaning cupboard! And clear space in your own. White vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, and essential oils can go a long way and will leave every room in your house simply sparkling and smelling fresh.
Refills
Refill old plastic bottles with all the goods you need: reusing plastic bottles is one of the best ways to shop ethically. Farm stores and zero-waste shops have a wide array of options in their cleaning sections.

Or ribbon! Looks lovely alongside wrapping material and makes for easy unwrapping. String can be reused again and again, and adds a thoughtful, handmade touch to gifts.
Sari wrapping material
A beautifully ingenious way to wrap your gifts. Sari wrapping fabric is as unique as it is sustainable. Buy recycled sari fabric to wrap up a gift to a friend. Then they can use it to wrap a gift for their cousin. Then they can use it to wrap a gift for their gran. Then - you get the picture.
Paper tape
Rustic, effective, and more sustainable than Sellotape, washi tape is a decorative, adhesive paper. It comes in many different colours and patterns, so is perfect for crafting as well as gorgeous gift-wrapping.
